intro
Catchy combination of 60's pop and new wave on self-released debut album from Seattle-based group, Goldie Wilson
The self-released garage pop album has great commercial appeal thanks to its striking mixture of 1960's AM-radio pop and the snotty, slower vocals of more modern singers. Goldie Wilson have crafted over a dozen tracks that are firmly rooted in American rock and country music and they use every trick in the trade on the production. Buzz, rumble and echo plus harmony vocals, a tambourine, and even a 1970's soul slide guitar on one of the highlights 'Victorville', make one happy tombola of an album. At times though, Goldie Wilson have a new wave sound like Polyrock rather than of the influences from an earlier date. There are plenty of memorable tunes with duo vocals and catchy choruses for your pleasure here. 'Two Star Motels' is a gorgeous little epic with a remote sounding farfisa organ which captures the feeling of Americana perfectly. A nice pastiche with only a few flaws over the course of 55 minutes.
