intro

Promising, but unbalanced combination of post-rock, nu-jazz and folktronica from Portugese duo Papercutz

It must be Autumn that makes me look forward to hearing new music from southern Europe. 'Lylac' kicks off with some style for Portugese singer Melissa Veras and mastermind Bruno Miguel who perform as Papercutz. Clear, gentle, warm and sunny by sound, Papercutz play a rather odd type of pop music. Their experimental and minimal music has a sultry tarnish and is inspired by post-rock, nu-jazz and folktronica. The sounds and vocals were recorded separately at different locations around Portugal. So, there's no genuine chemistry taking place and the most impressive moments are those with just music. Fuzzy and a bit exotic, 'Lylac' shows the compositional talent of Miguel, but once Melissa and he are in one studio at the same time we may be in for treat.
