intro
Memorable-sounding reggae on latest album from UK band Pama International, their first on their own Rockers Revolt imprint
Reggae went extra-caribbean ages ago and landed in Africa, The UK and wherenot. It very much looks as if most of the world is stepping forward in a dub fashion these days. A good deal of roots reggae can be found by Pama International on this first album on their own Rockers Revolt imprint. The recording is live and direct with the emphasis on righteousness and consideration. The album is a very, very nice routine with little to get all anxious about. Mellow, levelled and up to standard, nothing more, nothing less, this makes competent listening pleasure. Recalling the days of 'Ghost Town', the album leans equally heavy on pop and melody as on reggae and rhythm. Memorable tunes packed in an old skool reggae style. Pama International were signed to Trojan and it's that label's loss that a remix bonanza of this decent dozen will now pass their hands. Pama Outernational follow in the footsteps of Greyhound, Two-Tone, Linton Kwesi Johnston, (early) UB40 and Steel Pulse. The vocals mostly come too soft-spoken to my ears, as digitally reproduced reggae music hasn't yet sunk in. The brass and rhythm sections come off rather poorly on a CD. Be on the lookout for any vinyl records from Pama and in the meantime play this CD with the amplifier all tweaked up; your personal post-production as it were.
