intro
At the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, Katie Anderson shoots rising Leeds-based five-piece electronic group, Hadouken
Hadouken take their name from a special move-a throwing fireball attack called "The Hadouken"-in the 'Street Fighter' video game, and their music incorporates techno into their sound alongside Nintendo Game Boy sounds. An electronic group from Leeds, Hadouken formed in 2006 and consists of vocalist, songwriter and producer James Smith, keyboard player Alice Spooner, guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice, bassist Chris Purcell and drummer Nick Rice. During live performances both Chris and Daniel also play synthesizers during some songs. The group first began to attract public attention in January 2007 when Mike Skinner of the Streets played future single 'That Boy That Girl' on BBC Radio 1 whilst guest presenting Zane Lowe's new music show. As well as 'That Boy That Girl', Hadouken, who are currently signed to Atlantic Records, have released another five singles ; two EPs, 'Mixtape' and 'Not Here to Please You', and in May put out their debut album, 'Music for an Accelerated Culture'. These photographs were taken by photographer Katie Anderson on a British tour in July 2008 to promote the album at a gig at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth.
