intro
Striking and impressive second album from Illinois-based indie pop trio, the Headlights
I had never heard of this US trio when I got 'Some Racing, Some Stopping' in my mailbox, and even though it was released on a good label (Polyvinyl), I had my doubts, mostly because I have learned not to trust what the labels tells you about their bands. In short, it sounded good in theory, but was it as good in real life ? Actually, for once, it was! The opening track, 'Get Your Head Around It”, is a nice little pop song, that recalls the fantastic band Boy Crazy, and that reference can easily be used on the forthcoming songs too. The third song, 'Market Girl', is based around a strong bass line, and even features my favourite instrument, hand claps. Even though Tristan Wraight’s vocals are a bit rock-ish, he sings so calmly that I can live with that fact. It doesn’t happen that often that I find new bands that I have never heard of and that I like, but I can really recommend Headlights and this, their second album. Now I am going to see if I can find that first one…
