intro
Our Website of the Month is CBGB, a website that pays tribute to the famous New York punk club
www.cbgb.com is a tribute to the infamous CBGB's (Country, Blue Grass and Blues) club, which, based on the Lower East side in New York, opened it doors for the first time in 1973 and finally closed in October 2006. Founded by Hilly Kristal in 1973, it was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles, but quickly became a forum for American punk and new wave acts such as initially Blondie, the Patti Smith Group, the Ramones, Television, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, the Dead Boys and the Talking Heads. The CBGB website features photos from that golden age, as well of recent shows in which bands such AC/DC, the Gin Blossoms, the Lemonheads, Lush, Miracle Legion, Pavement and Social Distortion all also played there. There is a tribute to Hilly Kristal who dies in August of last year ; a history written by him of the club ; a selection cuttings which run from the 1970's to 2006 ; a links page ; an online store and video archives.
