Kila and Oki - Kila and Oki
Label: Kila
Format: CD

intro

Atmospheric and enjoyable collection of world music from traditional Irish band Kila, which finds them collaborating on this album with Japanese musician, Oki

Kila, the traditional Irish band, have decided on their latest record to collaborate with Oki, a musician from the Ainu people in the north of Japan. The result is a record of atmospheric and enjoyable world music. To my ears (though they’re not overly well trained in terms of traditional world music) Kila have opted to go for more of a Japanese sound on these songs, although the Irish influence of their own traditional music definitely comes through. There is a good mix of instrumentals and beautiful melodies on this album, sung in both Japanese and Irish. You might not expect traditional music from countries as distant from each other as Ireland and Japan are to mix as well as they do on this record, but it really is a fantastic union. If these two collaborate on a record again in the future, it will make me a very happy man.
