intro
Haunting, distinctive elecktro pop on new 12" from the Portland, Oregon-based Bobby Birdman
Newly founded Fryk Beat Records caught Portland, Oregon- based charmer Bobby Birdman for an EP with remixes and a brand new lead track. Birdman's 'Victory At Sea' is culled off a forthcoming album of his and is featured in a vibrating E*Rock remix with a Yacht and a Lucky Dragons mix as two more tracks. His slightly laconic yet affectionate voice matches the slow but persistent music. The clash of the conflicting patterns of his melody line and their layers makes 'Victory At Sea' a neat little epic rhyme, destructed and rebuilt at the same time. The original is rather soberly orchestrated but the E*Rock mix adds the stomping and clapping best known from his brother's moniker E*Vax as half of Ratatat. 'I'm Not You' comes in the Lucky Dragons mix and with some squeaky distortion has a haunting quality. Outright smart is the fingerclicking based percussion in the E*Rock mix for the title track. Measured by storyline and Birdman's own performance, the best is kept to the last. 'I Will Come Again' portrays him best; phlegmatic yet caring and full of distinction.
