intro
Strong new single from new Bella Union signing the Dears, which recalls in moments Morrissey at his best
'Lost in the Plot' is one of the year's best singles, if only for the title track itself The Dears are fronted by a big cool black dude who has a stage presence that outshine many others that have come before him. Murray Lightburn reminds me of Love's Arthur Lee, but in truth he wants to be Morrissey. Sadly for us, he doesn't sound like him enough, but when he does it is magic 'Lost in the Plot' swoons in and steals your heart, with the best dramatic Moz-style opener ever. It has some brilliant backing which sadly later changes direction to sound more like Blur. By the time it ends it is back , however, to sounding like Morrissey. It could be better, but in a year for great British bands it's good that someone from Canada is stirring things up a bit. 'Heartless Romantic', the first of the B sides, is very lo fi, and wacky, while the closing track. 'Acoustic Guitar Phase' sounds somehting like Ian McNabb singing the blues.
