Phew, tough one here ! Neurosis pinches any experienced grunger's, stoner's or whoever's mind and soul. And with great ease. Slow and persistent, the majesty of Neurosis unfolds. Neurosis render their fury with rage and a determinded feel of the symphonic. 'The Sun That Never Sets' is perpetual loudness, moulded and engineered by Steve Albini. On the masterful 'From the Hill' the guitars get twisted around and appear like bagpipes, and it's a sound that works well. The album is filled with a drama that however will never move you to tears. Neurosis is grim, subconsciously turning you upside down. I try to avoid comparisions, as most are unfair. Somehow though, Neurosis teach Nick Cave a staggering Birthday Party lesson. Just as easily Neurosis could be labelled as being the highlighted "downers" in the Black Sabbath and Big Black catalogue. "With the storms in your mind and the clouds in your heart, will you survive ?" It's a work of intense rock, let's just settle for rock, as Neurosis is likely to outlive all trendiness. 'The Sun That Never Sets' is the first album to sport both the Relapse, and its sister label Release's logo.
