Colorado-based Americana and blues singer-songwriter David Starr has released a new album with long-time collaborator, mandolin player Erik Stucky, following up on Starr’s 2023 release ‘Better Me’. Recorded in one take at Nashville Addiction Sound Studios, produced by Starr and Mike Prentice, ‘Starr & Stucky’ is an acoustic collection of setlist favourites reimagined: “This album has been something Erik and I have wanted to do for a long time……We have so much fun in our live show and are proud of how we’ve developed it together; taking it to the studio was a no-brainer”. ‘Starr & Stucky’ is a vibrant, novel blend of country, folk and blue grass. Highlights of this nine-track collection include: the catchy, up-tempo single ‘Good As Gone’, described by Starr as an “anywhere but here, get out on the road kind of tune”; the atmospheric, plaintive ‘Waiting In The Dark’ with its intricate mandolin; the emotive ‘Edge Of The World’ on the importance of hope and resilience; the rousing anthem ‘Rise Up Again’; and the exotic ‘Cabo San Lucas’ with its wistful tale of love. A stripped-back album, with soulful vocals and authentic lyrics, set against skilful guitar and mandolin accompaniment, ‘Starr & Stucky’ is an engaging listen and a welcome opportunity for audiences outside the USA to savour the music of this accomplished duo.
