intro
Excellent and timely reissue of late Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull multi-instrumentalist Maartin Allcock's second solo album
Maartin Allcock's solo album 'OX15' is released in August. This is actually the re-release of what was Maartin Allcock's second album - which was first issued back in 1999 and has been unavailable for some years. Elephant Records have now decided to release the record again, following Allcock's untimely death in September, 2018. A classically trained musician, Maartin Allcock had that rare ability to read a music score and instantly hear not just one instrumental part but a whole orchestra playing in his head. It was his skill as a talented arranger and multi-instrumentalist that led to his invitation to join Fairport Convention in 1985 and subsequently Jethro Tull in 1988. Experience with both bands led Allcock to expand his own ideas for the blending of folk and rock and he subsequently had a very successful career as a session musician, producer, writer and solo performer. The twelve tracks on 'OX15' demonstrate Maartin Allcock's influences across a wide range of styles and his technical prowess across a plethora of instruments. Four of the tracks feature vocals. Allcock sings on 'Whenever We See The Dark' and 'Simple' whilst Najma Akhtar provides vocals on 'Chimes at Midnight' as well as on 'A Dream'. 'OX15' showcases Maartin Allcock at his very best. He was a hugely gifted writer, arranger, record producer and multi-instrumentalist who could perform brilliantly across a wide range of musical genres. No surprise that Allcock remained in great demand right up until his untimely demise almost three years ago.
