intro
Elegant vaudeville folk album on fifth solo album from former Cardiacs pianist. William D Drake
Over the course of thirteen tracks, fantasy ditties and concise waltzes alike, 'Revere Reach' comes as the culminating correction to whatever went wrong in prog rock in the past forty years. To the trained ear of a Cardiacs devotee it is probably a disappointment, but 'Revere Reach', however, sounds to me like something brand new. I must have heard music from Cardiacs, as I'm their age, but I can't for the life of me recall anything. Considered in dutiful ignorance of the past, 'Revere Reach' struck me as being archetypical English vaudeville cabaret of genuine quality. There are memorable melodies which, I assume, consist of escapading progressive rock wandering abouts and are stripped to the bone. Songs such as 'Lifeblood', 'Liveraft' and the title track could become one's earworms. Quite excellent should this be your fancy.
