Beans - End It All
Label: Anticon
Format: CD

intro

Urgent and compelling third solo album from New York-based hip hop group the Antipop Consortium's front man, Beans

With a few notable exceptions, the Antipop Consortium's return a year ago proved a disappointment. Solo albums by Beans have, however, rated much higher. 'End It All' again makes clear that Beans is the mastermind behind the Antipop Consortium. A host of producers and musicians feature on this, his first album for Anticon. There are less of the dopey freakouts that made 'Tomorrow Right Now' such a stunner of an album, but his raps have not lost their drive and velocity. The sarcasm hasn't gone either. Kind of transatlantic, this is a hybrid of UK and NYC styles, with members of Interpol and TV On The Radio adding a new rock perspective. 'En It All' does not waste a single moment with 13 tracks in just over half an hour. It has urge and impact stamped all over it. Bringing together Clark and Fourtet does not mean automatic dance music though. The tone is sinister, the sound edgy and on a couple of tracks only, 'Superstar Destroyer' to name one, he gets the hips moving. Neither mind expanding, 'End It All' at least makes up for a number of dull records in recent years. Beans is a dextrous MC with a weird lyrical sense for observation.
