intro
Magical fourth album from Sølyst. the solo project of Kriedlier drummer Thomas Klein
Driven by percussion, 'Spring' is an instantly inspirational automotive technology album. Motorway machine made music split over two sides of four tracks each, 'Spring' meets the requirements of classic LP status. Onwards on from moment one it has the engine running, ringing church bells and, whilst being perhaps too experienced to know where to cut things short, it charms the chimes. Jittering bleeps draw melody lines over both acoustic and electronic percussion and drums. Sølyst, as band drummers often are aware they have to do, moulds the beats with a grand sound in mind. 'Atlas" one of the stand out tracks on 'Spring'. blends beeps and bleeps into beats. As all track names come as prophetic words, the track sequence reads like a poetic story line. The LP's first track makes such a firm statement. 'Sheroes' is krautrock par excellence. Deconstructive next, 'Flex' juggles above the imaginable but spooky mastercraft awaits on the cunning, cracking and magnificent 'Thief' track. An LP of seasonal dimensions, 'Spring' baffles with its bright new energy krautrock beat ideas. The B-Side of the LP starts on 'Hold' yet soon the confusion sets in as after the stunning 'Atlas', mind bending into the penultimate number 'Spiral' and into the last track, the title song, 'Spring'. Over the length of these last two tracks, Thomas Klein shows he's in a league with Glenn Kotche. Prolific percussionist. Mastering an invention of his own.
