intro
Nick Dent-Robinson previews this year's annual Fairport Cropredy Convention which will take place between Thursday 9 August and Saturday 11 August and, as well as Fairport Convention, will include sets from Brian Wilson, Kate Rusby, and the Levellers.
This year's Fairport Cropredy Convention promises to be something rather special. The event - to be held at Cropredy village near Banbury in North Oxfordshire from Thursday 9 August until Saturday 11 August - will play host to the legendary Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Wilson is to perform the epic Beach Boys 'Pet Sounds' album on the opening day of the festival – an album that has been acknowledged as one of the most original and influential records from the 1960s. In Rolling Stone's '500 Greatest Albums of All Time' poll 'Pet Sounds' is number 2 - beaten only by the Beatles' 'Sergeant Pepper'! Fairport Convention will open and close the festival, as always. Also appearing will be Police Dog Hogan; Smith & Brewer, an American guitar duo; folkrockers Oysterband; Fish; folk singer Kate Rusby and the Levellers who are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary this year. As usual, BAFTA nominee Richard Digance will open on Saturday before Fairport Convention's grand finale. Other acts have yet to be announced. For more, go to www.fairportconvention.com
