intro
Excellent live 'best of' from Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema who after fifteen years apart reformed Royal Trux for gigs in New York and LA.
Silly billy noise or mean and sleazy pranksters? Royal Trux manage to be still both. While 'Mercury', for example, is simply wacky fun, Royal Trux at another level still are this steamrolling bunch of punks. Wild and wonderful on 'Waterpark' and even on a flat-sounding song like 'Platinum Tips', Royal Trux maintain a zany and electrifying line. There is plenty of mirth on 'The Banana Question' which makes me start to wonder why I've never seen Royal Trux live. Underneath the grit and grime, I only now detect playful joy. Even a sober soul could become intoxicated. On the last track 'Ice Cream' they're again these charming but creepy psychos. On their studio albums I thought of them as freeform punks but live Royal Trux show themselves to have been great entertainers on at least two occasions recently.
