intro
Exquisite and dreamy-sounding freeform electronica on collaborative album between experimental Berlin musicians, Gudrun Gut and Hans-Joachim Irmler
Stalwarts of the Berlin new wave and electronica music scene Gudrun Gut (Ex-Malaria, who were Peel favourites for a decade or two) and Hans-Joachim Irmler run this 500 metre course in 45 minutes, without a single dull moment. The duo's athletic electronica was mixed by Jan Wagner, whilst the album was mastered by Stefan Betke who released three groundbreaking albums himself using the guise of Pole. Gudrun Gut moved on to produce the 'Ocean Show' on Berlin's Radio 1 and there learnt story building tension using music, which he shows off well on '500m'. A radio show album it is perhaps. The narrative originates from machines in a state of seemingly mild revolt, and Gremlin speak can be even detected. 45 minutes of electronic drizzle can at times simply shower the brain. '500m' is, however, too pleasant for that. The album relishes in a mud pool of exquisite sounds. This nondescript intrigue works extremely well in music. Dreamy freeform electronica.
