intro
Epic and haunting new EP from uncompromising Bath-based guitar pop outfit, Pylo
Pylo. A Bath-based British band brimming with brilliance and set to bring balance to the bountiful airwaves with their brave, brash, bright and beautiful amalgamation of beats and everything that is great about real contemporary music. Matthew Aldus, James Scott, Richard Gully, Max Blunos, Johan Jorgensen and Rhys Friery make up the outfit and, since forming in the spring of 2012, they have enjoyed a swift assent to prominence within the music industry, whilst commendably insisting on doing things their way. The press release describes the whole thing as “intelligent and uncompromising, Pylo are born of a mutual desire to make compelling and original music that has fifty years of great British rock n' roll in its DNA,” and it isn’t wrong. Pylo released their debut single ‘Enemies', an effortlessly haunting track of epic proportions, and this four track EP carries on in the same vein with a symphony of reverberant electric guitars and potent anthemic vocals. 'Simple Souls' is the first track on the EP and is arguably the strongest number, although all four tracks would hold their own on any radio station. Glistening and standing out from other likewise bands around at present, Pylo emerge into the mainstream sporting a Verve/Snow Patrol sort of sound which is enhanced by their own take on everyday life. 'Climbing Through the Sun' is another glorious example of British guitar pop at its best that will undoubtedly leave you wanting to get your mitts on a full album. You will have to make do with this little gem of an EP for now though, unless you can catch them live at one of their ventures on to the stage this year which will include the Dot to Dot Festival in Nottingham, and shows in Bristol and Birmingham My advice would be to catch a glimpse early before they get massive. It is on the cards.
