Forgettable indie pop on vinyl only single from much hyped London-based band, Evans the Death

For the past couple of years, I have been kind of out of touch with the contemporary indie pop scene. But that doesn’t keep me from reading and hearing the names of all the hottest new acts on for example Facebook all the time, even though I am quite seldom interested enough to actually look them up. Evans the Death are one of those bands. I have seen many statuses on Facebook devoted to their greatness, and now I finally have been able to make a decision of my own. So, what’s the verdict, you may ask? Well, they are quite good. But not nearly as great as my comrades wants me to believe. My first reaction was that they sounded a lot like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, one of the few bands to emerge in the past years that I have really liked, but with a female vocalist that sounds like she’s standing and waiting for the bus. Musically I enjoyed 'Catch Your Cold', which apparently is taken from their debut album. But when TPOPAH is doing is so well, do we really need another band that does more or less the same thing? The B-side, entitled 'Crying Song', is a classic filler. The “song” consists of someone (according to the press sheet, it’s a comedian that I have never heard of) sobbing, while the band plays. I have no idea why they put this on the single. Is it supposed to be funny? Well, you won’t find me laughing, that’s for sure. Now I realize that I might be giving the impression that I hate this band, but I really don’t. 'Catch Your Cold' is a… well… catchy tune, and I might actually listen to the rest of the album on Spotify, with the emphasis on the word “might”.
