intro
Excellent debut album from Leeds trio A-Sun Amissa, which consisting of former members of Glissando, combine dense dreamscapes and blissfully minimalist drone textures
Hailing from Leeds, A-Sun Amissa is a new project made up of former members of Glissando. Straddling the sonic void between Marconi Union and Oophoi, the trio create dense tonal dreamscapes and blissfully minimalist drone textures. As a reviewer, it is difficult to say a great deal about this album other than to sing its praises. Comprising five tracks of no-wave style anti-drama, the album is something which can only really be appreciated by listening. The whole point of the album is that the tracks, while atmospheric, dream-like and superbly executed, don’t really go anywhere, and, as such, it is very difficult to discuss them at any great length. For me, the album is an experience, an aural trip if you will, and, unlike so many other contributors to what is quickly becoming a very crowded genre, A-Sun Amissa have created a collection which can both be listened to and heard. I have listened to the album several times now, and find that I enjoy it best late at night, with the lights out and my headphones on – it takes my mind down corridors which are not normally opened to it, through music or any other (legal) stimulus. 'Desperate in her Heavy Sleep' is yet another superb release from Gizeh Records and deserves a wide audience. If you only take a gamble on one album this month, make it this one. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
