intro
Marie Hazelwood photographs alternative rock trio Being Jo Francis in Liverpool...
Being Jo Francis were an alternative rock trio which formed four years ago in Coventry, and decamped to Liverpool last year. The group, who included Muse, the Manchester Orchestra and Foals among their influences, released three singles and also an EP, ‘Twenty Three’. Their line-up consisted of Chris Mackrill (guitar, vocals); Josh Catchpole (bass) and Jon Holcombe (drums). While they rarely said musch on stage to the audience, preferring to let their music do the talking, they became known in Liverpool for their wild stage energy and performances. All three member are Christians, and ‘Twenty Three’, their best known song and usual set closer, was written by Chris in response to God after a friend died suddenly at the age of 23. All the profits from the ‘Twenty Three’ EP went to charity. The first part of this two part photo shoot was taken at the Kazimier Club in Liverpool on the 20th February, and the second part at the Thirsty Scholar in Manchester on the 21st February. Being Jo Francis split up shortly after these photos were taken in March.
