intro
Typically dark and moving fourth album from New York-based post punks, Interpol
Interpol are now up to their fourth album which they have called simply 'Interpol'. They have lost their bass player, Carlos Dengler. He still plays on the album, but quit before the touring starts. They still remain the Joy Division of today and 'Interpol' matches anything from their past. The gloriously dark 'Success' kicks it off and is followed by the slow and trippy 'Memory Serves'.'Summer Well', which will be released as a single in December, starts off slowly, but soon warms up. 'Lights' is very dark and very gloomy. A solo guitar cuts on it through the air as does Paul Banks' vocal. Backing vocals add extra depth as it moves along. It is a rocker that will get you spilling your pint on that sticky floor. 'Barricade' starts off in killer fashion and with lush vocals from Paul. It is a song that drags you in. 'Always Malaise (A man I 'Am)' is downbeat and sad, but glorious too in only the way that Interpol can be. 'Safe Without' is another gloriously dark slow-burner, while 'Try It On' has a fast-driven heart. 'All of the Ways' has a killer groove, while 'The Undoing' is slow to start, but again dark and moving. Interpol have found their sound and are not really doing anything they haven't done before, but this is still nevertheless one of the best albums of the year. Interpol have lost none of their appeal. There is bo doubt about that.
