intro

Atmospheric new EP from New York group, reminiscent of both Mogwai and the Cure

Although picked up by the NME and named (slightly ludicrously) as one of the New York bands to change your life, Interpol have so far failed to capitalise on the success of a certain other New York band ahead of them, which is unfortunate, because although hardly revolutionary, the band does deserve some attention. Cleverly treading a line between moody atmospherics and pop, the three songs here present a welcome snapshot of the band. The opening track, 'PDA', is the most immediately appealing song here, a typical retro effort, complete with false ending halfway through, with the singer’s quivering voice adding a nice twist. 'NYC' takes a brooding look at the city in a squall of Mogwai-like guitars, but the best song here is Specialist, which sounds like the Cure, with the insidious reverb-laden guitars never straying too far from easy-going pop as a neat hook in the chorus pulls you back in when things start getting a bit too serious.

Track Listing:-
1 PDA
2 NYC
3 Specialist
