Dark-edged latest single from Moby, which in being so accurate in its tribute to Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen almost becomes a parody
Moby himself says this single is "the most personal song on the album (Wait For Me). It's definitely the product of spending my adolescence listening to Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen". Anyone only familiar with the album 'Play' may be slightly surprised at the darker, edgier feel (and absence of sampling) on this single. That Moby is channelling Ian Curtis in both lyrical content and delivery is almost painfully obvious. While I like the song in and of itself, it's certainly catchy, and a fine mix of guitar and synth, it is a homage so accurate that it is in danger of becoming a parody of what inspired it. I don't doubt the sincerity of Moby's soul bearing. It just sounds like some one else's soul. As you would expect the single comes with four additional remixes. All are worth a listen for adding a slightly different slant, in particular the 'Lifelike' edit transports the song from 1979 Joy Divison to 1984 Human League.
