intro
Our Website of the Month is The Dumbing of America, an American-based alternative music website
The Dumbing of America www.thedumbingofamerica.net is an American-based alternative music website that has been on-line since last November. “We've really made an effort to try and cover the bands that other sites seem to ignore,“ says its Dallas-based editor, Todd Cochran.“But we try and spice it up with some great older bands so that people can understand the context of the music they're listening to today.” Recent months have seen The Dumbing of America interview long-established acts such as New Order’s Peter Hook and, Fugazi’s Brendan Canty and Black Flag and the Circle Jerks' Keith Morris, but also newer groups such as Royal Treatment Plant, the Legends and the Pocketbooks. “There are three or four other people who provide some assistance, but the site is essentially a solo project,” Todd explains.” I designed the site, conduct all the interviews, do all the writing and editing. I hadn't done anything like it before. I was just a fan of music, who's been going to see bands for a very long time.” As well as interviews, The Dumbing of America, which is up-dated usually two or three times week, has album reviews, opinion columns, music polls, MP3 samples and video links. While only on-line for less than a year, it has already an immense amount of both depth and content and is a valuable resource for any fan of independent music.
