intro
Exquisite dubstep from the Widdler, the nom de plume of former Israeli and now New Jersey-based musician Yoni Oron
I could be wrong but I assume that widdler is Chinese for riddler. Operating from garden state New Jersey, former Israeli Yoni Oron has had a few releases out on various new dubstep labels, including the wobbly 'Final Stage' and also the funny 'Froggy Style' which included of course a few croaks. Now here's his first for Studio Rockers in London. 'Sensi Samurai' is rather exquisite with perfected layers whose samples range from Arab to Asian backgrounds, and melt seamlessly with babble about kung fu and samurai whilst a most addictive riddim evolves. Roots dub sets the pace for 'Lady Dub' with those typical keyboard strikes that work like a slide guitar on a dub track. 'Lady Dub' is daytime radio-friendly, great vocals graced with a non-disturbing yet imaginative sound. On 'Outback' the Widdler returns to a world of the wetlands and welcomes back the frog and his little green mates. 'Outback' recalls both industrial wastelands turned funky and waters gone digitally enhanced on record. Think of seagulls singing the chorus. A wonderful EP even without inhaling sensi.
