intro
Intense, but thoroughly appealing latest collection of psychedelia from the ever dysfunctional Clinic
Clinic have made a summer album, it says here on the press release. Don’t be afraid: it does NOT sound like this season’s monster Euro-cheese hit being blasted out of a "way beyond YOUR budget, sucker" soft-top by a smug, sun-kissed body beautiful. (Unless this year’s Alicante to Zante dancefloor smash is fizzing with garagey guitars and driving organ riffs, sort-of psychedelic and jittering with Ade Blackburn’s paranoid, lock-jaw vocals). But know this: It sounds too much like everything else they’ve ever done for comfort. Not remotely summery, then - unless you spend your days dressed like a 13th Floor Elevator and happen to be sitting on a haunted pier at midnight during a particularly intense acid trip. Saying that, us rain-soaked Brits have such a gleefully dysfunctional attitude towards the so-called ‘warmer’ months (Viking-style invasions of sleepy Mediterranean towns; drunkenly enthusiastic swapping of STIs with mainland Europeans; comedy sunburn) the album’s nihilistic energy encapsulates them for us the way no ‘Macarena’ megamix ever could. So think of ‘Do It!’ as a warped soundtrack to your forthcoming adventures abroad, stick it on your iPod, put some money away for a good defence lawyer and prepare to party.
