intro
Sparkling desert rock on new single from Birmingham-based rockers Mexicolas
Hola, amigos – welcome to the desert. There's gonna be drinking, dancing around the fire, driving fast across the dunes ... the sort of crazed hallucinogenic carnage that puts you in mind of a modern remix of Easy Rider. Oh yeah, Mexicolas are doing the music. If you're familiar (and on friendly terms) with the desert and stoner rock tradition, you're going to get on well with Mexicolas. They're not as dark and moody (or tongue-in-cheek) as some of the progenitors of the sound, but they've opened it up to accessibility without watering the tequila too much - with the result that 'Shame' will appeal to fans of more mainstream rock sounds. The purists will bitch and moan that there's not enough grit and dead skin under the band's fingernails, but screw purism – good tunes are good tunes. Mexicolas have a spare seat in the truck, so hop on and head for the border – but make sure you bring a bottle.
