intro
Compelling compilation from now defunct hardcore rockers Centrifuge, the debut release of promising new label Welikedanger
First things first ! This is the first ever release by new record label Welikedanger! and for their very first release they have put out an album that comprises of the best bits of label owner Wayne Kempson's now defunct band Centrifuge. It is something of an odd choice for a first release but an endearing and nostalgic one too. From the word go it reminds me of modern day contemporaries such as Yourcodenameis:milo, the Cooper Temple Clause (albeit without the synthesizers.) and Meet me in St. Louis. Centrifuge combine the quirkiness of the former and the their witty and incredibly switched on social commentaries of the latter over which they provide intelligent, artistic and at points beautifully intricate music. Centrifuge create such a powerful sound that when their vocalist Phil Wagg states “I hate bands that sing about cigarettes/Surely they've more to say” and that put “fashion over passion” and swear in songs you really feel, as he proclaims that it's a sign of a lazy mind, that he believes it. It's a strong compilation that gives people the chance the hear a band that should have been better known and deserved a much larger audience. Well done, Welikedanger ! I like you.
