intro
Energetic and eclectic 10th anniversary collection of B-sides and curiosities from the ever inventive Clinic
Clinic have been ploughing their furrow so long Australians are starting to report scuffing sensations on the soles of their shoes. And while continual use of surgical masks indicate they have as much desire for celeb status as a severed head has for a pair of Jimmy Choos, they have conformed sufficiently to release a 10th anniversary collection of B-sides and curiosities. A wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am clutch of ad break-length compositions, 'Funf' boasts the shoulder-knotted tension last felt by shock-hungry moviegoers on the opening night of 'Jaws'. Shrill, gritted-teeth vocals, urgent surf guitars and trebly fuzzed-up organs collude to give this set of punk thrashes, garagey outbreaks and music hall-ish ditties the head-spinning intensity of a coked-up WAG in a Prada sale. This isn’t in the same league as Oasis’ radio-friendly unit-shifting B-sides opus, 'The Masterplan'. But it’ll still have you forlornly wishing the Indie-verse’s other occupants could show the minutest fraction of Clinic’s verve, variety and ADD energy even if for a song or two. Just one calming, relaxing cup of Horlicks could, however, ruin everything for Clinic - so don’t ever presume to take them for granted.
