We preview the 9th Penny Black Music Night which will take place at the Spitz in London on Saturday 3rd March and will feature Viarosa, the Bitter Springs and Joe Gideon and the Shark
Belated Happy New Year to everyone! We are pleased to announce the 9th Penny Black Music Night on Saturday 3rd March. As usual the event will take place at the Spitz at 109 Commercial Street, Spitalfields, London This time around we have come up with not just with one band as an headliner, but two very popular and well established bands. These are Viarosa and the Bitter Springs. The first headliner, Viarosa, have won much acclaim for their diverse debut album 'Where the Killers Run', which encompasses elements of rock, country and blues, and have toured in the last few months both with Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 and Josh T. Pearson. Their dramatic live shows have won them a reputation as as an act not to be missed. The second headliner are the genre-hopping Bitter Springs. Bitter Springs are led by Simon Rivers – one of the greatest of all songwriters and lyrics writers, who is respected not just by music fans, but also established musicians. Bitter Springs have also played with Vic Godard as the Subway Sect. The band put on a great almost theatrical show making all fans feel a part of it. Supporting these 2 great bands are the duo Joe Gideon and the Shark. Although they are fairly new band they have great experience making music from playing as Bikini Atoll. This time there are only 2 of them but they are still just as powerful and exciting and manage to merge together bass, guitar, drums, keyboard and vocals. How ? You will have to find out for yourself on the night! The night will open with Andy Thompson from the band Idiot Son, who will be playing a rare solo acoustic set. The door open at 7:15 and admission is £ 6. Once it’s all over, if you feel like it, we will be playing some music and anyone is welcome to stay and dance. (Primal Scream, New Order, JAMC, the Cure, the Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, the Undertones, Urge Overkill, Joy Division, Blondie, and much more) See you on the 3rd March ! Pennyblackmusic
