intro
At their second Manchester gig in a month, this time playing a support slot at the conclusion of the Veils’ UK tour, Dixie Ernill watches Bristol group the New Rhodes' immediate and uncomplicated pop sound quickly capture the attention of their unsuspecting audience
Not even a month after their last visit, the New Rhodes are back in Manchester to complete their final support slot at the conclusion of the Veils’ UK tour. Do these hard working boys never sleep? Despite (or possibly because of) the New Rhodes’ music being a more immediate and uncomplicated pop sound than the headline act, they quickly capture the attention of an unsuspecting audience with the opening twin salvo of ‘She Said No’ and previous chart-bothering single ‘You’ve Given Me Something That I Can’t Give Back’. Using every inch of the tight stage, the band seem to be enjoying each moment of their short seven song set that also includes the unhealthily infectious singles ‘The History Of Britain’ and ‘I Wish I Was You’. They sign off with ‘When We Were Young’, that strides purposely along like a forgotten Smith’s classic. Yet again it appears that the New Rhodes have won over another pocket of fans, which hopefully means they’ll be headlining on their next visit…..
