intro
Compellingly brutal and violent debut album from hardcore supergroup, which includes members of The Locust, Swing Kids, Give Up the Ghost, Over My Dead Body and The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower
Some Girls are what could in theory be called a supergroup, if this term could be used on a band that are such a violent example of hardcore. You, however, couldn't expect much else from a band that features members of The Locust, Swing Kids, Give Up the Ghost, Over My Dead Body and The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower. Some Girls, to quote from their press sheet, have said about 'Heaven's Pregnant Teens', their debut album, that "Basically we wanted to brutalize people and have each song punch people in the face and not let up until they were choking on their own blood." This album, when talking in metaphors, does just that, It doesn't let up at all. It literally tears through its 13 track, 25 minute life and in the entire time doesn't give you a chance to breathe except for in the disjointed, downward strums that occasionally take place between songs. If I hadn't heard the members of the group's other bands before, this album would have probably killed me. Instead, I found myself listening to the music in a different way, thinking about the brutality, and the sheer balls taken to create it and push it onto it's audiences senses. It's a noisy, trashy, fucked up achievement, but also an awesome one. It is NOT an album for fans of melodic hardcore, but for those people that like their hardcore really stupidly hardcore this album is the one you need in your collection - There are no standout tracks. The album itself is the standout track. I can't quite understand how it has been released on a major label, but in my heart of hearts I'm really glad it has.
