intro

"Intelligent Sunday morning post rock' sung in English from French combo Chut

French combo Chut! start their album 'Wasted' with a slow build of feedback, leading into a simple one note bass riff, some sotto vocals (in English) and more feedback sweeps. It sets the mood for the album, which mines the territory of post rock without discarding regular melodic modes. Throughout, the five-man group provides a lot of space. Simple beats and clean repeated licks are occasionally contrasted with harsher guitar sounds and bass crunch. Even when kicking up a fair bit of dust (on the conclusion of 'Wipmit', for example) there’s not much to make your ears bleed. The hushed singing makes the album a sombre affair. Ambience and mood definitely rule the roost. The album will probably strike a lot of listeners as a low-key affair. The sound is somewhat reminiscent of the quieter moments of late-period Motorpsycho; the group has also been compared to one of Motorpsycho’s stylistic parents, Sonic Youth, and one can hear why: 'Wasted' is 10 songs of intelligent Sunday morning post rock.
