intro
First release on new indiepop 7" llimited edition label, Unpopular Records, which features two live tracks from the Clientele
The Clientele are lucky enough to be the first release on Unpopular Records - the new pet project of Alistair Fitchett of Tangents fame, and whilst these aren’t new songs as such they are live recordings and- remember - limited edition! Artwork by Gail O’Hara! Buy it anyway! The Clientele are one of those bands my stereotype are meant to love, but occasionally I malfunction and have an independent thought (as unwise as the results might be) and my pedantry prevents me from loving the Clientele because lead singer Alasdair Maclean is the incomprehensible Alan Hansen of the indiepop world who makes me want to yell, “ENUNCIATE! Boy!”. I can’t work out if he’s drunk or dying or both, so I’m afraid the message is lost on me in a blur of gentle warbling. Having read much earnest praise of the Clientele pretty much everywhere, however, I’m sure that just like the mark of the pox, they’ll leave a delicate fuzzy imprint on the face of music.
