Kill Yourself - Soft Touch Of Man

intro

Abrasive, harsh-on-the-ear EP from new Leeds act, Clambake, who have both a Captain Beefheart and a Fall influence

Thank goodness – after the vaguely musical efforts of Clambake, I’d thought the dedication of the chaps at Gringo Records power-sanding off their listeners’ ears with abrasive clang-bang rock thump had given way to playing in tune. No fear – Kill Yourself is here to further plow the furrow begun by label mates Bilge Pump. This said furrow starts in Captain Beefheart’s front lawn, past the flowerbed in front of Mark E. Smith’s local and directly into the vegetable patch lovingly tended by the residents of the local Home for The Criminally Insane. Unfortunately the band isn’t as interesting as that sounds: Loud, rhythmic thump, jab-you-in-the-throat guitar and so-so shouty vocals suggest a group probably better experienced while they are demolishing the local pub.
