Formulaic, but impressive new single from the fast-rising Funeral for a Friend
It is amazing how fast Funeral for a Friend have become one of the UK's biggest rock bands. Little over a year ago they were an underground emo-core band, known in the right circles, but hardly thought of as a commercial prospect. Now they're the premier choice for Britain's skater kids, and arevery likely to make a big impact stateside as well. 'Escape Artists Never Die' is the latest single off their debut album, 'Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation', and is likely to keep them on their upward trend to superstardom. The track follows a kind of formula that FFAF have in their songs,emo with a slight metal-core edge to the guitars. Despite this formulaic element, it's easy to get past this, as Funeral have a major saving grace- they know how to write a good tune. You can't avoid it. It plants itself into your memory and lingers there for a very long time. For a long time I wasn't that keen on Funeral for a Friend, but the more you hear their songs, the more they force you to like them. This is definitely worth getting if you are a fan of a good emotional song, and you're not too bothered by annoying hype.
