intro

Meticulous, but "dull" second album from American acoustic chamber rock six piece

If you are wondering what happens to the Quadratics (the doomed band in the film 'Welcome to the Dollhouse')well they grew up and changed their name to Halifax Pier. This CD sounds like it was recorded as a part of a school project,an  extra curricular activity to "up the grade curve" or whatever the Hell it is you do in American schools. The opener is a four minute yawn entitled 'That Old Grizzly Thing' and, while there is nothing "wrong" with it, it is dull like the majority of the rest of this album. The orchestration is certainly reminiscent of Nick Drake circa 'Five Leaves Left', but it is so meticulous and stiff it leaves you emotionally uninvolved. You can almost envisage their school master nodding approval at the precise nature of their arrangements. The closer 'Our Pape' passes by, another instrumental that I know I will never play again.Boring.
