intro
Trash blues rock CD from three-man Dutch outfit, who, while drawing inevitable comparisons with bands like the Scientists and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion , play with "enough energy to escape being tagged as mere copyists."
Green Hornet are a three-man outfit from Gronigen in Holland who play trash blues rock. The guitars are distorted, the beat stomping, the harmonica squawking and the vocals sweaty. Their sound, and songs with titles like '“Feel a Sin', 'Get it Going On' and 'Tremble & Shake' mean Green Hornet will inevitably be compared with groups like the Scientists, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and the Oblivians (particularly their'“... Play 9 Songs With Mr. Quintron' album); fortunately, the band has enough energy to escape being tagged as mere copyists. Their heavy use of keyboards helps set them apart, although they do stick with a JSBX-style two guitar and drum lineup on some songs. There’s also a number of instrumentals, such as the appropriately named 'Funky Doodle II'. The album is recorded with all the instruments coming through loud and clear — no artificial lo-fi stuff here — and the energy level is high, if not quite as maniacal as the aforementioned Oblivians or JSBX; this isn’t the band to start with in this line of music (unless you’re throwing a dance party,in which case they'll fit the bill nicely),but they certainly are near the top of the B league and have everything they need to move up — a bit more songwriting originality is the only thing that’s missing.
