intro
Some would say sacrilegeous, others brilliant reworking of the old Go Gos hit.
I think I may be lucky in that I can’t remember the original by the Go-Go’s, as this cover has been described as “sacrilege” by an unnamed source. The response to this single seems to be always extreme – you’ll either love it, or hate it. This too is perhaps an equally good thing. Music that inspires the passions. It certainly doesn’t fit neatly into any genre, but the synth pop element seems to predominate, and the vocalist does remind me somewhat of the much-underrated Betty Boo. The following remix is overly long and seemingly superfluous, although luckily the b-side 'Yes. Ja. Si. Oui' has a manic Casio driven beat vaguely reminiscent of Figurine, and even Helen Love, but which is nowhere near as good it has to be said. Again, the remix is quite quite different – acoustic driven and stark, stripped down, male vocals which even possess a slight air of melancholia. The tone to this remix is quite unexpected and doesn’t follow the pattern of the preceding tracks and is much more to my indie pop loving tastes. Ultimately, this is not the kind of thing I can imagine you’d want to listen to on loop, but an experience none the less. Undoubtedly an acquired taste.
