Everything is green...again. The latest branch of the Elephant 6 family tree, the Essex Green, have produced an album of soothing psych-pop tunes that will have you breaking out the incense in no time. Hailing from NYC, all 5 members contribute to their first full-length record, "Everything Is Green". The group has a pedigree consisting of various mates from The Ladybug Transistor, Silver Jews and Guppyboy and incorporate a wide variety of sounds which borrow from late 60's British folk rock all the way out to psychedelic flamenco excursions. Each of the band members provide vocals and songwriting skills which show their admiration and panache for not only preserving the past but making it modern at the same time. Harmonies soar on each of the tracks recalling the heyday of southern California groups like The Mamas and Papas and The Beach Boys. "Mrs. Bean" is straight up 60's pop with lilting flute lines. "Saturday" has a celtic jig feel and "Sun" and "Big Green Tree" make for a very pleasant listen. "Everything Is Green" is proof positive that the acorn doesn't fall very from the tree. Look for the interview with Sasha Bell of The Essex Green in this issue.
