intro
Nick Dent-Robinson previews this year's Rewind South Festival which will take this year at Henley-on-Thames from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th August.
The Four Tops, Paul Young, Michael Bolton, Lulu and Grandmaster Flash will be amongst the many big names performing at the 11th Rewind South Festival at Temple Island Meadows, Henley-on-Thames from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th August this summer. Michael Bolton - who has sold over 75 million records worldwide including 'How Am I Supposed to Live Without You' and his version of the classic 'When A Man Loves A Woman' - will close the event on Sunday evening. Motown superstars The Four Tops, perhaps best known for their 1966 hit single 'Reach Out I'll Be There', will be led by founder member Abdul “Duke” Fakir and will also feature lead singer Ronnie McNeir, who has been with the group for over three decades. Lulu will be returning to Henley (she headlined the Henley Festival in 2012) whilst hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash will open the event on Friday evening. Others appearing this August include Sister Sledge; Midge Ure; UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro; Belinda Carlisle; Hazel O'Connor; Heaven 17; Heather Small; Bob Marley's former band, The Wailers; The Undertones; The Selecter; Kim Appleby, formerly of Mel and Kim; and Tiffany, best known for her 1987 single, 'I Think We're Alone Now'. As in previous years, the festival will include some comedy acts – notably 'Mock the Week' mainstay Milton Jones - as well as a range of family entertainments, sports events, circus skills workshops and giant bubble parties. Toyah Wilcox will be compering with Clive Jackson of Doctor and the Medics. Over 20,000 people are expected to attend each day. Event manager Katt Lingard said, “Following our amazing tenth event at Henley last year, we have decided to take Rewind into the future with a broader range of artists – not just from the Eighties but others who are legends with an influence spanning far beyond a single decade. This year there is a spectacular cast of artists, many of whom will be appearing here for the very first time. It is quite a line-up for a small riverside town and I know it is going to be a fantastic three days for everyone.” For more information visit: https://south.rewindfestival.com/
