intro
First rate neo psychedelia on second single from this new band out of the London scene, Green Seagull
Green Seagull, who formed in 2016, is the latest band to burst out of the London neo-psych scene. Their sound is evocative of late 1960's baroque psychedelia and 12-string jangle, soaked in harmony and bringing to mind influences from the Left Banke to the Association. Their debut album is due in early 2018. '(I Used to Dream In) Black and White' begins with chiming, lovely guitar jangle. “She was the one who painted in the colours of the night” is the lyric. It is a fine vocal and the band achieves a mellifluous sound, evoking their cherished 1960's psychedelia- this single a first rate sonic treat. 'Not Like You and Me' is a solid B side- presenting the band as disturbed about the people they see on the TV news, but more hopeful about the qualities of their audience. It is musically compelling work- a new band to root for.

Scarlet Fever (2018) |
Enjoyable but flawed album from London band Green Seagull which simply rehashes its 60's influences |
