Downpilot - Radio Ghost
Label: Tapete Records
Format: CD

intro

Formulaic and dull latest album from Downpilot, the project of Seattle-based musician Paul Hirage, which pays uninspiring tribute to 1970's pop rock

Vintage used to be a trademark of quality - mature wine and the such like - but recent years has become a style. Re-enacting the psychedelic torments of post prog rock and pre-punk rock, Downpilot does a good vintage job. Even in spite of the flat sounds and the equally flat vocals on the album, Downpilot successfully manage to conceal any sign of originality. Aspiring hipsters leaping on to the legacy of Big Star, Dwight Twilley or Chris Stamey with the aid of this album ought to think twice. Often timid and sometimes just dull, Downpilot treasures an era of music which he barely comprehends. The merits are in the references.
