Over three galleries Melanie Smith takes photographs of this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe takes place for three weeks every year in August. With over 4, 000 shows this year and its visitors now outnumbering Edinburgh’s regular population of just under half a million people, it is the largest Arts Festival in the world. The photographs in these three galleries were taken by Melanie Smith, and accompany her account of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They show some of its artists and performers.
