Our Pennyblackmusic Bands' Night at The Ruby Lounge in Manchester on the 5th July will feature sets from reformed indie pop legends the Brilliant Corners, the Haywains and Horsebeach

Pennyblackmusic presents an unbelievable line up at the respected Ruby Lounge in the heart of Manchester’s fashionable Northern Quarter. At just £8 a ticket this is not one to ignore. The bands playing are:- THE BRILLIANT CORNERS One of the truly special C86 bands fronted by the charismatic Davey Woodward, who is arguably one of England’s most underrated songwriters. Sticking to their indie roots the band never quite broke through despite a string of impressive singles and albums (including 'Meet Me On Tuesdays' in 1986 and the classic 'Somebody Up There Likes Me' LP in 1988). They also toured relentlessly in both the UK and Europe, building up a loyal fanbase. Following the release of a 48 track retrospective on Cherry Red, the band decided to have a year of selective gigs to mark the 30 year anniversary of their birth. So far they have had a starring role at the Scared To Get Happy event in London last June, headline slots at Indie Tracks, The Berlin Popfest and The Madrid Popfest, as well as a sold out home town show in Bristol. They will be going back into hibernation at the end of the summer and this represents their only northern gig. Miss it at your peril. THE HAYWAINS Formed in Somerset in ’88 and fuelled by a shared love of the melodic end of Punk such as the Undertones and subsequently the Wedding Present, the band released a clutch of singles and a couple of great albums back in their heyday. Reformed last year to celebrate 25 years since their inception, the band have already played some high profile gigs and are lined up to play the forthcoming New York Popfest. HORSEBEACH New Manchester band with a heavy debt to ‘Sarah Records’ and early Smiths. Their debut single sold out within a day on release in January, and current single 'Faded Eyes' is destined to go the same way. Expect great things of this band.
