intro

Superb 1980's-influenced third album from Los Angeles-based alternative rockers, the Dum Dum Girls

Dum Dum Girls have gone through a a lot of line-up changes in recent years. 'Too True', their third album, finds them stripped down to vocalist and guitarist, Dee Dee Penny, and Raveonettes guitarist Sune Rose Wagner, who as well providing additional guitar, bass, drums and synthesiser has also co-produced the album with veteran producer Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, the Go Go's, Dr Feelgood) 'Cult of Love' has a lovely cool 1980's glow to it, and is jangly with perfect harmonies from Dee Dee and Sune that shine in a Gothic style. 'Evil Blooms',is much faster and soundds like a commercial Raveonettes, while 'Rimbaud Eyes' is a big time 1980's indie number, sounding like it came from the time when all our indie bands got big major label deals and polished up their sound for a wider appeal. 'Are You Okay?' is a cinematic, romantic track, while 'Too True to Be Good' sounds like a merging of the Cure and Strawberry Switchblade at thier wackiest. The crisply-produced 'In the Wake of You,'is reminscent of Kristen Hersch, while 'Lost Boys and Grils Club' recollects a fuzzed up Cocteau Twins. 'Little Minx' has also the early passion of the early Jesus and Mary Chain. 'Under These Hands' is more reflective and dreamy. 'Trouble is My Name' is is a slowed down update of the Velvet Underground's 'I'll Be Your Mirror', and a perfect ending for a superb album.
