intro
Excellent slacker pop on 10-inch vinyl EP from Scott and Charlene's Wedding, the prpoject of Adelaide-born but now New York-based singer-songwriter Craig Dermody
Craig Dermody's follow-up to his debut album, 'Para Vista Social Club', sees him relocate himself to New York from his native Adelaide, but with the same styleof slacker pop melodies that made me fall in love with him the first time around. He also has planned a new album due later this spring as well as summer UK dates. The title track opens this new five-song EP. It has a swaggering Teenage Fanclub indie pop sound, while Craig's vocals have a lazy Lou Reed cool. The whole thing will have you bouncing down the street if you have it on your phone. 'Gammy Leg', with its thrashing sound, is reminiscent of a slow Wedding Present, while the vocals here remind me of those of Julian Casablancas from the Strokes. 'I Wanna Die' is slowly and lazly delivered, and both it and 'My World' are reminiscent of the Velvet Underground with their sleazy sound. 'Hazy Morning' closes the EP, which features Cale-style violin and strummed Velvets guitar. Total perfect guitar heaven!

Richard Lewis is riveted by Australian-formed but New York-based group Scott and Charlene's Wedding's shambolic but yet surprisingly tight brand of alternative rock at a show on their first UK tour at the Shipping Forecast in Liverpool |
