intro
Uplifting latest single from previously often seen-as-inaccessible New York post punk act, Crystal Stilts
Crystal Stilts, a band long associated with making the noisy, slightly inaccessible kind of sounds that all too frequently have radio listeners lowering the volume on their sets, have bounced back with a single reissue so catchy it may be a dark horse contender for song of the summer. A hook that pummels you into the ground, jangly percussion and Ian Curtis vocals culminate in a song that’s likely to worm its way into your head and refuse to come out for days. While the lyrical delivery is reminiscent of Joy Division or perhaps even the Cure’s Robert Smith, the instrumentation is pure, unashamed rollicking rock and roll – it sounds as if it may have been plucked straight from a Bruce Springsteen album, the twang of Americana particularly evident in the upbeat, uplifting chorus. It won’t just Shake The Shackles, it’ll shake off the cobwebs, shake your foundations and rattle your bones – this tune is a breath of fresh air, and with any luck, will propel Crystal Stilts into the limelight they rightly deserve.
